Thanks. I tried DPI from 80 to 98 or so, and my other windows adjusted
along the way, but the J Edit > Configure window seemed to stay
constant.

Then I changed Smoothing from Grayscale (the default) to Subpixel. The
entries in the Category box at the left of the J Configure window went
to a reasonable font, the "Use any fixed pitch font" went to what
appeared to be a plain text font on a white (not gray) background, and
the text /in/ the ijx window went to a small size albeit still with a
proportional font. The other text in the Configure box was still big.
(NB: I get the same effect if I select Smoothing: None.)

Interestingly, switching back to Grayscale didn't reverse the effect; I
had to close Configure and open it again to see it big again.

Now I've got a non-proportional font in the ijx window! Beats me how; I
didn't do anymore than I said. It's a big font, though. It happened
because I closed the Configure window after going back to Grayscale.
I'm beginning to suspect that I have more config work to do on my
display system.

Thanks for your patience,

Bill
