100%. I have running J on a Sharp Zaurus SL-C3000 just fine. This is
ARM-based, too. It is based on a 416MHz PXA270 XScale to be exact
which is of 2004 vintage but ARM is ARM, more or less; note that
JSoftware used to support the the StrongARM which was just the
precursor to the XScale.

This Zaurus has a 4GB microdrive and I run a fully fledged (OpenBSD)
Unix on it as a replacement of the standard embedded Linux and the
PDA software. (I was wary of lugging my old heavy laptop around
and was looking for a really portable development system, shortly
before the netbook craze broke out with the ASUS Eee.) The SL-C3x00
series was/is a bit difficult to get outside of Japan but I really
like it. The keyboard is not as dinky as in those slider phones
and the VGA screen gives me a nice 30x80 console while still being
readable.

Porting J to it was easy, I did it all while being on a 30 minute
train ride.

Now, while your gadget can display videos and harrass you with
incoming phone calls, the "cut-down" probably translates into a
"Full-featured Web browser? YES! C compiler? NO!". The entry

gives me the impression that cross-compiling for the Pre should
work with a flick of the wrist.
