cd is to 'change directory' (not change disk) and is the same in DOS. Try not to drop J application icons on the desktop (gets too cluttered), better to try to use the dock and keep the desktop as free as possible. Just drag an icon on there and the dock will 'squeeze apart' to make room.
The video Ric directed you to (from Brian Schott) does a nice job of showing you the install beneath what I described in words in my previous post. They should make sense.
