This message is an attempt to re-start a thread which was very
informative regarding using screen casts for J. At one point I listed
a few topics that I thought might benefit from screen casts and they
remain a good idea to me.

However, more recently I have looked back at my youtube.com/my_videos
page and noticed (to my surprise) that the most popular screen cast is
the one entitled, "J programming language - a simple openGL screen
robot".

Even though, that title is admittedly a little bit of an oversell, I
believe that it attracted the most traffic because of people's
interest in its last 2 or maybe 3 words.

So, I am guessing that an effective way to make more people aware of J
would be to have more screen casts about what J does and shows -- and
maybe even edits -- scripts. And of course screen casts with
descriptive titles that emphasize such niche uses.

I believe it is best to have all the J screen casts linked together so
that when someone chooses one of them, they are likely to have other J
screen casts recommended to them. If the titles all begin with "J
programming language - ", I think that would help. And it might be
better for them all to be "Brian Schott"'s or someone else's. I am
just assuming that youtube makes suggestions of similar videos on the
basis of both title and contributor. So if others would make J screen
casts, I would be pleased to put them under my account (and give
attribution to others, if desired). Or if someone else would rather
produce or manage such screen casts, I would be happy to contribute
mine.

I can see why jsoftware would be reluctant to officially sanction or
produce such amateur screen casts and it may not be in their budget to
produce or advertise professional quality screen casts.
In any case, Youtube may be the best place to place screen casts to
attract new users, not on the jwiki or jsoftware.com, for instance.

I will be happy to help anyone who asks, although as you all know, my
level of expertise is very low and limited, especially to only one
screen cast app on an aging Mac. But I like to think that at least a
hand full of people considered J after looking at the possibilities.

One way I may be able to help is to upload any screen casts that
others produce onto my youtube.com account. The files tend to be quite
big, so it may be hard for them to be emailed, for example. But surely
there is some way for them to be transported.

If I list the current screen casts on the jwiki, where should I put it?
