A calculator (real or simulated) is used interactively, and so there
is a lot more leeway to emulate higher precision arithmetic: time is
not a factor.  For the same reason, many Texas Instruments calculators
still use the Z80 (an 8-bit chip) at 6 or 15 MHz.
