Bill,
    After the jgtk error, I did run:
-------------------------------------------------------------------
    getgtkbin 1
Installing gtk binaries...
replace /Users/jph/j701/gtk/.DS_Store? [y]es, [n]o, [A]ll, [N]one,
[r]ename: A
Finished install of gtk binaries.
-------------------------------------------------------------------
but, jgtk gives the same error as before. Searching my machine for "gtk"
folders, I see that I have such folders not only in j701 and j701/_MACOSX
but in lots of other directories: /opt , /scisoft, /sw. I suppose these
were installed by python and various astronomy packages. Maybe they are
in the search path and are blocking the needed files?

With respect to jhs, I do get that error code:
----------------------------------------------------------------------
   /Users/jph/j701/bin/jhs.command ; exit;
[uni:~] jph% /Users/jph/j701/bin/jhs.command ; exit;
|domain error: gethostnameJ
|   0=res r=.    gethostnameJ(256#' ');256
    cder''
1 0
---------------------------------------------------------------------
Now searching my machine, I find no such file as "libc.dylib". Is
that right name? Where would that file usually reside?

                                               Thanks,
                                                Patrick
