Raul, wonderful, thanks! Most of my problem results from my unfamiliarity with Win7, which is new to me. Consequently, I overlooked the menu route to J, Start > All Programs > j64-701 > j64-701[brk|con|gtk|jhs]. I was starting things from the file explorer. I note these details in the hope that other naive J + Win7 users will find them useful. > For gtkide, you need to install it, once. . . . I picked it off the Start menu. The instructions in the console window were clear. The first time the installation failed for lack of permission but the script told me to run gtkide as administrator (once). Install and load was then successful. Subsequently, just starting it through the Start menu runs the startup script and opens the GUI window. > For jhs, using it is a bit more involved. Actually, not that bad. Before your helpful reply, it had not occurred to me to start jgtk.bat because I knew I did not have GTK installed, but I had tried jhs.bat. I followed the script's instructions. Since "localhost" is easier to type, I browsed to localhost:65001/jijx, bookmarked it, and nicknamed it "jcon". So now it is a matter of picking j64-701jhs from the Start menu, then surfing to "jcon". > . . .
