Well, here's the thing...
I started using checkinstall to build rpm's a few months after I installed 
everything I needed to get gnucash from cvs to compile. Otherwise, I'd have 
RPMs.

You can grab the gnucash-CVS rpm from http://www.thewunders.org/files/rpms/ 
and try to install it and see what you get.
>From my half-assed notes, it looks like I installed fairly recent (as of 
October 2001) versions of Finance_Quote, G-Wrap, Gnome-libs, Gnome-print,  
Guppi, guile, libghttp, libxml, slib, libdb.
