Well...
There's a thin line here between maintaining the freedoms we alegedly base our
country on, and maintaining peace. A line that was blurred when someone
decided that it was a good idea to fly planeloads of innocents into buildings
full of innocents.
But I don't believe that the FBI, CIA, HS, or whatever have suddenly developed
the ability to protect us today from that which they couldn't protect us in
September of 2001. And I don't believe any "Patriot Act" or any act du jour
is really gonna have any affect on addressing the real problems of the world.
(There are just too many, and there is no way for the divergant cultures of
this world to agree on what the problems *are*, much less to agree on ways to
solve them). These acts are designed to foster re-election, not to *do*
anything. Unquestionably, Americans have lost freedoms, but we haven't lost
any more freedoms in the past 2 years, really, than we've lost since big
government came into play in the 40's. Our freedons have been eroding for a
long time, now.
And I don't believe Collins is "spouting ... wanton hatred & ignorance" any
more than you are, Lonnie.
Ignorance is a clever beast, those who possess it are usually ignorant of
their possession of it.
Just my $0.02 US...I'll go back to ignoring political discusions now...

BTW, wasn't this thread supposed to have ended when someone brought up Hitler?

Regards,
Tim
