Sorry, I take a different tack. I like ethnics (both the people and
the jokes). I'm, of course, caucasian, but I can laugh just as hard at
jokes about my own ethnic group as I can at others. I've found over
the years that many jokes are multi-ethnic, the purported target
varies in each part of the country.
The joke I supplied was political but it has most of the same elements
as typical ethnic jokes (confusion about who's who, a not necesarily
believable situation, the opposite party-ethnic group-religion, etc.
is the target). I would have found the joke to be equally funny if the
target were GWB or Muslims or Baptists or Catholics or Norwegians or
Texans or Blacks or Hispanics.
My wife is from North Dakota where most of the funny puns target
Norwegians. Her mother's family is Norwegian, and they and we find
Norwegian jokes simply hilarious. I grew up in Texas, and here in
Colorado most of the multi-ethnic jokes target Texans. Some of them
are downright cute (the jokes, not the Texans <grin>).

An interesting side note. As a general rule, the most liberal
(politically speaking) among us these days seem to have been
shortchanged when it comes to a sense of humor, and this seems to be a
change from the past. Jack Kennedy and Harry Truman and FDR all had a
fine sense of humor. Reagan and GWB had/have a sense of humor, but I
can't really associate a sense of humor with Al Gore or John Kerry or
Ted Kennedy or Al Franken or Michael Moore. I'm sure there are
exceptions to this rule. Dick Cheney doesn't seem to be exceptionally
humorful. I don't know enough about John Edwards to say one way or the
other.
End of ramblings.
