Thanks Achim, clever idea :-) Anyway, I think there's some homework for the Maven plugin guys. If they are trying to make a release 100 % reproducible by eliminating content from user settings.xml, they should also look at installation settings... I'm going to check Maven Plugins JIRA and file a new issue if needed.
