I had the same issue on Ubuntu 12.10. The solution is to disable
modemmanager and then to run lthor again. For details please have a look
at the Tizen wiki article:

Hello all,
I have updated my Lunchbox, (a.k.a RD-210, etc.) with one of the
first
2.0 alpha builds back in 2012.
I have did the disk migration, and the system image flashing, and the
device works with that image since then.
After releasing of the Magnolia SDK I have tried to install the new
image, but it is failing with the follwing situation:
I can put my device to download mode.
Then run the follwoing command first and then plug the device in:/

I have also tried to flash the RD-210-tizen-2.0_20130306.1.tar.gz,
but
the situation is the similar.
The MD5SUMs had been verified after downloading.
My problem looks very similar to the following bu, but in my case
nothing happends on my phone's screen.
