Take a look here:
http://www.mnogosearch.org/doc/msearch-ch06.html. It is
explained how indexer detects character set. This is
3.2.x documentation. 3.1.x brunch processes charsets
in different, not so flexible, way.

Search by charset isn't possible. However, you can search with
language limit.
