Hi Chris, I can't answer all your questions (as I'm not one of the developers, and I quickly jumped on the Exhibit train before getting to deep into timeline), but I can tell you that I had Timeline integrated with Wordpress and had pretty close to 10k events on it. I'm not sure what the expected limit is. The David's Karger & Huynh would probably know.
