I would have written that as

so the content inside doesn't have to care about escaping occurrences
of <, & and perhaps > to entities. (Letting imitators copy good
practices, even if they don't understand how they work.) I believe
most people don't come up with the idea of using HTML escapes,
especially not if they hand edit the data.
