Did you ever consider making "extracting data" or "cutting" a different page mode?

I would assume most people don't need the scissors, just very interested people. So there could be a button or link, something akin to "extract data / mine data / view source", that you can click to reveal the scissors.

The regular user isn't confused by the scissors and the power users are usually more aware that they have to look harder to find their specific needs fulfilled.

Does that make sense?

I've turned off the scissors on individual items. I'll play around with
some ideas on how to make them less intrusive and annoying.
