Hi Florian,

That's a very fair critique and so don't be "sorry to nag" :-) It's only
through feedback from real users that we would know how to improve our
tools. We have heard feedback mainly on Timeline and Exhibit, and we're
sad we're not getting enough feedback on our other tools, such as
Longwell and Piggy Bank.

I like this idea. What I need to figure out is how to make it opt in.

Exhibit 2.0 will allow very flexible layouts, meaning that your page can
contain several views of several collections. For instance, a home page
might show the 5 most recently published papers on the top, a list of 10
most recently read books on the right, and a thumbnail view of 50
sketches in the middle (because the author has interest in sketching),
and a few facets on top of the thumbnails. So we have 3 distinct
collections, each of which can be copied off. Individual items can also
be copied off.

Right now, when you hover over any of the 3 collection views, you get
the scissors in its own upper right corner and that lets you copy off
that collection. But the scissors have been removed for individual
items. Can you imagine in your mind to see if those 3 pairs of scissors
are still annoying? If not, we can use them as a means to turn on an
interface for copying off individual items. Or as you suggested, we can
have something at the bottom of each collection view--perhaps a tiny
toolbox/hammer+screwdriver icon. And of course, the drop down menus will
have to be improved to be less mysterious :-)

You said "Copy All" wasn't so clear. So I'm leaning toward "Export
Data". What do you think? (The scissors, by the way, were stolen from
the Live Clipboard folks.)

David
