The first case illustrated I think is the right fit in terms of being  
part of the exhibit framework. From a user perspective this would act  
similarly to other lenses (timeline, table, maps, etc.).

That said, after looking at what you've done I have the odd desire for  
a cold hot-dog and a warm beer, so I'm not certain I'm thinking  
clearly ;-)

I like Stefano's point about link that to both the timeplot and the  
exhibit pages; it's an extremely good example.
