The implication of this statement is that JDK 1.4 will start out life with
a significantly less number of databases supported than JDK 1.3, and a fair
number of applications which will not work. IMHO, this is not good for the
Java community.
>From what I have gathered, it is quite possible that the people working on
jdbc3 were unaware of the extent of the impact of these change. There are
alternate ways that they could have addressed these issues which do not
introduce the compatibility problems. Alternately, jdbc3 could be held
back until "Java 3".
