My suggestion would be to use the Apache License as a skeleton and change a few things to suit your needs: 1) you can't give copyright to the ASF for something that is not hosted on its CVS (this is a policy of the ASF), so you have to give copyright to you or any other entity that represents you and the other contributors. Of course, if you plan to donate the code to the ASF later on, I would suggest you to place copyright on something that you have firm control on (so, for example, not your university) since it will be the legal entity that will have to sign the donation aggreement with the ASF. 2) in the section of brand protection, change the 'Apache' and the various ASF-related names ('cocoon', 'xalan', 'xerces', depending on which license you start from) to the name of your project. 3) in the section 'this software contains parts written by the ASF', replace ASF with the copyright entity (that could even be your name) 4) as a personal preference, if you plan to donate it, I would suggest you to avoid using acronyms as the project name since it doesn't really fit into our naming-scheme (we like fantasy names which are normally easier to pronounce and to visualize for international communities) > > Please understand this is nothing technical or personal: we are afraid > > of accepting donations about efforts that aren't already backed up by a > > strong and healthy open development community. Keep in mind that the fact that an effort starts 'sourceforged' doesn't mean that collaboration can't take place since day one. Rather the opposite: I would love to see collaboration between a MathML effort and Cocoon, FOP and Batik since all of them have something to do with XML presentation and java and many people have expressed their interest in publishing MathML and traslating it into SVG or similar. So, let us know when your projects start (I would suggest starting two different ones, one for MathML and one for the text2XML parser) and I, for sure, will be interested in sparlking collaboration from the cocoon community.
