Hello ppl,

ohhhh thats good. but not for a while though eh?
as for the other peoples questions:-
Our school consists of two different networks. The old RM NET LM
system and the newer RM CONNECT system. the 192.168.3.x machines are
the newer RM CONNECT ones (Win95/98) and the 192.168.1.x machines are
the older RM NET LM ones (Win3.1)
As it happens, we were installing a peice of software called RM PIC.
What it does is allow people with Win95/98 machines to log into our
network at home. It does this in a very sequre way. but there appear
to be two drawbacks.
First of all, it didn't allow access to shared areas. This means that
our admin staff won't be able to access the are that they all share.
I thought that we could get around this by using FTP. The good thing
about PIC is that it seems to map local IP addresses to the ones on
our network. for example From our standalone pc using Freeserve over a
modem, I can ping 192.168.3.1 (the CONNECT PDC) and it pings our PDC
server! So we gave my Amiga an internal address and it worked. All
we need to do now is setup an FTP service on our Admin server!
Second and possably worst. Speed. RM PIC only seems to let us
connect at 9600!!!! and worst of all RM don't seem to know why!
any ideas why it should be so slow? It uses the PPTP protocol and
runs through a Cisco 2600 router with 256K ISDN access.
BTW, I'm really surprised that GENESiS is supplied with an fTP
service. Why wasn't this in the docs? everybody in the IT dept was
surprised! I know that one of them was REALLY surprised by the Amiga
performance and price.
Regards,
Frank.
