Hello, I was kindly helped by Ann and she would like me to send my future questions to the the genome mailing list . I am trying to order a clone that contains the promoter of human YY1 gene. When I followed the instruction from Ann to search for the "YY1 clone", I did find the BC037308. However, I think this clone was derived from mRNA (ORF). Am I right? Even we assume this clone was a fragment of GENOMIC DNA, how can I know whether it contains both the YY1 "gene" and the "promoter" region, because I don't think the sequence of the clone is provided? Hello Guangchao, Yes, you can use the UCSC Genome Browser to find what you want. I will walk you through it. Start at the page you mentioned in your email, then press the "Genome Browser" link. This will take you to a gateway page where you can choose the organism you are interested in. It looks like you're interested in human, so just leave the defaults as they are. Type into the "position/search" box: YY1 -- then press the submit button. This will display a list of all genes and mRNAs that match this search term. Choose the gene you're interested in (probably the first one in the list) and follow the link for that gene. Now you are looking at your gene in the Genome Browser. Note that there are several annotation tracks for this section of the human genome. One of the tracks is from the Mammalian Gene Collection (it is green). It looks like the Gene in that track that most closely fits the YY1 gene you are interested in is: BC037308. Click directly on the image of that gene to see many details of the MGC Gene. This details page includes more information about this gene as well as the clone source. Of particular interest to you will be the "Order MGC clone" link. Follow that link to learn how to order the clone. I hope this information is helpful to you.
