Hello Bert, 1. If you are looking to convert a single position, try clicking on the "Convert" link on the top of the page. That's a quick way to navigate between assemblies.
2. Yes, hg18 is still there, and it is the default browser still. To toggle between hg18 and hg19, just choose the "assembly" on this page: http://genome.ucsc.edu/cgi-bin/hgGateway 3.
