When I query the hg18 genes and gene prediction tracks, ucsc genes knownGene table with a faulty gene name (e.g. asdfjkl), I get a non-informative popup warning: The page at http://genome.ucsc.edu says: Warning(s): OK
I used to get a nice page that told me what the problem was (this still works properly on the queensland mirror http://genome.qfab.org/cgi-bin/hgTables where you get Note: 1 of the 1 given identifiers (e.g. asdfjkl) have no match in table knownGene, field name or in alias table kgAlias, field alias.
