Hi Alan,

The hg18 human assembly has two tracks that contain miRNA data from
which you can obtain the sequence of miR-17 with its promoter region,
sno/miRNA and RNA Genes.

Here is a quick guide to get the sequence you are looking for. From the
Gateway page (http://genome.ucsc.edu/cgi-bin/hgGateway), select the Mar
2006 (NCBI36/hg18) human assembly. In the box labeled "position or
search term", delete the position, enter "miR-17", and click the submit
button. The first result listed should be under wgRna (the sno/miRNA
track), click the link "hsa-mir-17 at chr13:90800860-90800943". This
will take you to the browser image and you'll see a red item labeled
hsa-mir-17. Click on that item to see the details. From the details
page, you can select "View DNA for this feature" and from here you can
select "Promoter/Upstream by 1000 bases". You can adjust the number of
bases upstream by replacing "1000" with a number of your choice. Click
"get DNA" and you'll see the sequence.

I hope this answer was helpful. Please don't hesitate to contact the
mail list again if you have any further questions.
