Thanks. So the answer is that the nvidia-driver no longer cares. As you see from my signature, amd64 is not my home, and I don't keep current enough to make the statement I did. I promise to be more careful in the future. I was trying just to give Duncan some information, and ended up passing on out-of-date information instead.
