Depclean cannot unmerge important packages unless:
1) emerge path-to-ebuild was used (no longer possible)
2) user deleted/broken world file (user deserves what he gets ;] )
3) acl use flag removed after re-compiling system

So dont be afraid and run a depclean. It will only remove dependencies
of packages you no longer have.

dev-libs/glib
dev-libs/icu
dev-util/strace
sys-apps/coldplug
sys-apps/hotplug
sys-apps/i2c
sys-apps/pciutils
sys-apps/usbutils
sys-apps/xinetd
sys-fs/dosfstools

I'm afraid ;) think that unmerging gentoo-dev-sources ...

Check my list of 3 points above. glib is dependent on by system so depclean cant unmerge it unless you break your /etc/make.profile/ -- so add that to my 3 points :)

1) never done since it's deprecated (and this is a fresh install)
2) yes I've done it in the past like other awfull things but not this time
3) acl is not in my make.conf and emerge --info shows USE="amd64 acpi apache2 berkdb bitmap-fonts crypt emul-linux-x86 f77 fam font-server fortran gdbm gif gpm ipv6 jp2 jpeg lzw lzw-tiff multilib mysqli ncurses nls nptl nptlonly offensive opengl pdflib perl pic png python qt readline samba ssl tcpd usb userlocales xml2 xpm xrandr zlib video_cards_nvidia linguas_it"
make.profile -> ../usr/portage/profiles/default-linux/amd64/2004.3

... but forgot to mention that an "emerge -ev world" is running :P
