There are at least 175 ebuilds in the tree. No ebuild follows Jason's syntax. The '|| ( )'' syntax appeared in ebuild.5 manpage last August and many developers become accustomed to it. I'd rather say it's portage's bug if it is not handling the ``correct'' syntax. (I heard http://bugs.gentoo.org/show_bug.cgi?id=29849 was fixed.
