Translation: Gentoo is the best only because we know how to market ourselves. We like to prattle on about things like "the code" and our flexibility, when really we're just a bunch of marketing people hiding in some dark corner, sending each other emails from multiple addresses to make it look like we've got some real development going on here. It's a good thing we've got that OpenSolaris thing going on, too. We need somewhere new to get some more "code" for Gentoo. Heh... Anyway, I really could care less if the GWN is "official" or not, as I don't think it makes a bit of difference either way. What does matter is that it manages to maintain its journalistic freedom. MSNBC is an official part of Microsoft, but they've printed quite a few anti-MS articles. Being official does not mean being controlled, especially when it comes to media. I do agree with Grant that we should write up some provision that enforces that the GWN has its autonomy in reporting, but I don't think it needs to be removed from the PR project, as it is an invaluable PR tool that I have used myself when promoting things that Release Engineering is doing. Would that change if the GWN were not an official project? Not in the slightest, which is why I don't see a point in making the change. -- Chris Gianelloni Release Engineering - Strategic Lead/QA Manager Games - Developer Gentoo Linux
