Inertia is one thing... clarification of B is needed prior.
What mods are needed?  In my previous posting I stated how it was possible to 
do it without hacking up the ebuilds.
That approach, last time subpackaging reared it's head, is imo the best 
approach.  The tree doesn't have to be made 
subpackage aware, so modifications are minimal, just modifying portage.

The previous approach solar/iggy were using which I liked was find based- 
worked pretty well for creation of the 
subpkgs.  Granted, it won't work perfectly (find is a good start, but there is 
more required), so addition of a few 
vars that portage would use for subpkg generation would be needed.

Note those likely would be special cases though.
