quickly.

I am very appreciative of the work of everyone involved that allowed me to have
a fantastic first impression of the Gentoo ecosystem; it was clear to me that a
lot of careful thought goes into the decisions around defaults and that is no
doubt due to the culture of evidence-based discussion and attention to ease of
use for the average user.

If ego were allowed to be a decision maker around here, it’s clear even to a
newbie like me that Gentoo wouldn’t be as great as it is.

Well, I'm a 23 year user here.  I've had Gentoo on at least half a dozen rigs, NAS box, backup system and main rigs that run 24/7. Some have server type profiles and a couple have a desktop install with KDE.  I to support this USE flag change.  It is only for desktop profiles where sound is almost always wanted.  If one needs it on a server profile, it can be added.  If one uses a desktop profile and doesn't want pipewire etc, disable the USE flag and carry on.

I have on occasion not understood why devs made a change but one thing I have noticed with all the changes that are made, they are what is best for the largest group of people using that setup.  It almost always has the ability to override it if one needs too for whatever reason.  This is what makes Gentoo great, ability to change things to suite your needs.  The devs do a lot of work so we can have that ability.

So, we have a new user that likes the change.  We have a old user that also likes the change.  Plus we have devs that have made the decision that this change needs to happen.  Can we move on now?

Also, since I rarely post on this list.  Great job devs.  Gentoo just keeps getting better.  I still wish the error messages from emerge were easier to decode tho.  ROFL
