It's not. It's the union of the (upstream) driver's names in lcdproc and lcd4linux. Those devices that are supported by both programs had the lcdproc name staying and the lcd4linux one cut. It's also hard to standardise the names as some of the drivers are not actual devices (as curses or X11) while others stand for a whole family of devices or can talk to several different devices depending on the user configuration.
