The typical user does not deal with the ebuild files themselves, and
if they are doing so it's because there's a deficiency in the tools
available to them. Any user who *does* deal with ebuild files is doing
something sufficiently advanced that they need to be aware of EAPIs
anyway.

As for fragile... You might as well say that sticking PN and PV in the
file is fragile and a hack...
