I suspect there is more at issue than just performance. I run both samba and nfs (though without kerberos), and have the windows issues you mentioned, and I doubt that you can use samba as a root filesystem (that sounds painful at the very least), which is one of the things I use it for. NFS is just a lot cleaner for linux clients. Rich
