Seconded. Simple practical example (aside from testing) from my system: I need libg2c.so for old crappy fortran software I have to use. That's why I'm keeping sys-devel:3.4[fortran nls] around. I definitely do not need cxx flag here. Best regards, Andrew Savchenko
