Hi,

thanks to everybody who replied to my earlier email.

Gentoo does not provide a local use variable for that so I couldn't see

Can somebody advice me what the best solution to this might be? Should
we introduce a new local USE variable? If so, how? Any other options?

This is the best long-term option. Do you want to check whether there are any existing USE flags we could use?

I did check /usr/portage/profiles/use.desc quickly for existence of any flags with names or descriptions such as 'double', 'float', 'single', 'precision' and found nothing.

We could therefore introduce a new flag for some science packages. What would be good keywords?

float, float32, single?

double, float64?

This might be mutually exclusive (as in gromacs) or may be they can be used together (in some other packages)?

What do people think?

Is there any body out there who would like to take this further?

Thanks,

Hans
