In my opinion, the ebuild is not ready to go into the main tree. There is 
still some minor work to get Numeric to build against LAPACK and BLAS, and 
maybe ATLAS. Once that has been resolved, the SciPy ebuild can be improved.

Slightly off topic, Numeric will be rolled into SciPy in the not too distant 
future. This will reflect recent work to reunite the Numeric and Numarray 
camps under a common array type.
