Be aware that smbfs has not seen love in some time and is deprecated, so at some point it will we ripped from the kernel. You'll also have problems with newer versions of Windoze, wich CIFS is able to handle. Plus, it does a good job in recovering server downs, which also was not the case with smbfs.
