I'll add to the list ssmtp and spamassassin. Mutt is a great MUA but relies on an MTA to send email. I found ssmtp just the right alternative for my setup (it even does SMTP client auth). Spamassassin is a mail filter written in perl that identifies spam by means of text analysis.
