I see it shows up as hdg at boot time. Actually I just did a quick google and came upon the official ide-floppy homepage.

One of the suggestions is to add the kernel parameter hdg=ide-floppy. There may be some problems if you also have ide-scsi as a kernel parameter for a cd burner. I will give this a shot and see what happens. Thanks.
