Not sure it's possible but it would be nice to have a script that converted
an RPM (SRPM?) to an ebuild. Not just installing it into portage but
something that would create the ebuild. A little tweaking here and there to
get the right USE variables (unless those can be deciphered) and it's ready
for submitting as a new ebuild.

p.s. I tried 3 times to post this to bugzilla. Apparently it's in a mood
today because I keep getting this stupid 'wizard' like interface that tries
to help me post the bug. Unfortunately, it does not ask me the 'LICENSE'
question and that is apparently required to get it to work. Ironically, the
error page tells me that post_bug.cgi has hit an error and asks me to report
it at...URL: http://bugs.gentoo.org/post_bug.cgi :)

I would look into creating an ebuild. It is almost equivalent to typing the
commands you mentioned. AFAIK there is no other way to get it into portage.
If you look at the example /usr/portage/skel.ebuild it is pretty much what
you need, just edit the descriptions and source URI. I would suggest looking
into setting up a portage overlay for your new ebuild. Create
/usr/local/portage and then add "PORTDIR_OVERLAY" in /etc/make.conf to point
to it. Pick a category, better pick an existing one, and then setup your
ebuild as the others.
