thanks so much for helping me out here, i just have a few questions first. keep in mind that most of my linux experience is in server-type stuff -- desktop and media-related software is not my area of understanding let alone expertise:

As well as some information > at bugs.gentoo.org: well at the moment, i'd just be thrilled to be able to get something through xawtv... or even having /dev/v4l exist would be a start. i will definately check out mythtv when i'm up and running though -- i've heard great things. > When compiling a kernel I need, V4L, bt848 as module, under sound bt848 > again module, I2C support and I2C bit banging interfaces, I20, and I20 > PCI support, I hope I'm not forgetting anything. I use local.start with > the following line > > insmod bttv card=1 fieldnr=1 gbuffers=2 radio=0 ok. slow down there ;-) what IS all that? i found bt848 in "sound" v4l was under "multimedia devices" but i didn't see bt848 for video anywhere i found I20 and I20-PCI found I2C as well but didn't see anything to select from the sub-list that appeared when i selected "bit-banging" (whatever that is). ...so what is all that? and how do i "use local.start with insmod..." > Anyway, I hope this helps get the ball rolling, its quite nice to be > able to watch programs at your own pace rather than being a slave to a > timeslot ;). Reply to the list with your progress I'll keep my eye on > the thread. thanks so much for your help. i want to understand what i'm doing rather than just doing and hoping... you know what i mean? -- many go fishing all their lives without knowing that it is not fish they are after. - henry david thoreau -- [EMAIL PROTECTED] mailing list
