Forget it. Knoppix has no better chance to run on that IEEE1394 CD drive
than any other Linux boot CD. You'll end up with a floppy based install,
and Slackware 8.1 seems to be the flavour of the month. Check this
thread in the forums for details:
http://forums.gentoo.org/viewtopic.php?t=27951 (and make sure you read
to the end of it, there's a reason why we don't use tomsrtbt anymore).

I haven't finished my own installation guide for the R505 yet, sorry,
but I can send you my kernel .config and XF86Config files if you want.

PM v7 was the first version that could safely modify NTFS partitions, so
it's safe to use that (well, I did...), but if you have to upgrade from
your version 5 anyway, you might as well go for 8.
