I can say that it doesn't feel particularly faster, however - RandR will be one of those "FINALLY!" features once all the major DM's/WM's support

QandQ? Xand14? Enlighten us, please. I know I could go read
stuff on the XFree website, but lots of people won't, and it's a
pet peeve of mine to read something that's abbreviated when a
large portion of the audience won't have a clue what they stand
for.

RandR == Resize and Rotate. The ability to change X's resolution and virtual desktop dimensions without restarting X. You used to only be able to change resolution with the same "actual" screen size - just scroll around the viewport. Now, you can do both. Gnome 2.2 seems to somewhat correctly handle this (my edge panel isn't stopping maximization yet - I'll look for that in 2.2.1).

My bad, this has been the buzz about X4.3 for some time now, so I made the bad assumption that everyone knew.

And if anyone says gentoo users are enough in-the-know to figure
it out but still doesn't think vi should be in the stage1
tarball, you're nuts! :)

What? You mean you don't use sed and awk to do all your config file editing (...are those even in stage1)?
