A similar question was posted on the gentoo-devc list today. I haven't
tried this solution, but someon eposted about this package, which would
appear to be a very minimalist solution, if you don't need the bloat of
installing a whole time server:
$ emerge -s rdate
Searching...
[ Results for search key : rdate ]
[ Applications found : 1 ]
* net-misc/rdate
