Basically, I want my USB Cable Modem to ALWAYS be Eth0 even if it (or any other net device fails to start) so that it will never present the wrong settings to the internet, and that it will always be configured properly. If one of the other interfaces fails fine... but this is the critical one... What's currently happening is that I'm getting all my standard NICs as Eth0 through Eth4... Then the Cable Modem is showing up as Eth5.
Even if I could be sure that the Cable Modem would never load as anything lower than eth5 that would be acceptable as well. If it matters I'm using the CDCEther driver to control the cable modem, the eepro module to control 1 of the nics, the tulip driver to control 3 of the other nics, and the 8139too module to control the final nic.
Any assistance would be appreciated.
