I am using KMail, too. However, by setting the folder options to expire the messages after 2 weeks, you won't have to many problems with deleting emails. The ones you really want to keep can then be moved into a seperate folder. Even if the gentoo-user folder is really full (I am now on the gentoo-user list since 4 days and have 253 messages in this folder) you can easily navigate by using 'Next Unread Message'.
