Well...I would say it's a good thing as long as my disk heads don't start 
trying to access my hard disk more often than they would if my memory was 
being used to the maximum extent possible.  I mean if I have more than enough 
memory left over in RAM why would Gentoo want to go paging stuff in and out 
of swap?  When and if needed.  It would seem more in line with the reason for 
lot's of RAM to just do everything in RAM if Gentoo can do that.  

I especially don't understand why the swap is being used now as opposed to 
when I first installed Gentoo and for at least a month or two afterwards when 
it was not used at all.  

I hope I am not being too picky here but it seems to me that swap should not 
be used at all if there is ANY RAM that can be used in it's place available.  
Which on my computer there is.  Of course I am not that familiar with the 
intracacies of using swap so this may be much easier said than done.
