Hi all,

I am following the virtual/mail doc for Postfix from Gentoo's
documentation, but I have a problem with SMTP auth.

I set up everything as described in the howto, and I can send and
receive with Postfix, authenticate with Courier (via pam) against
MySQL w/o any error.

BUT: When I try to setup SMTP auth., I (say: kmail, my MUA) can't
authenticate with Postfix for sending an email. I can see the
following error msg. in my Postfix log:

=====================================================================
postfix/smtpd[26662]: warning: SASL authentication failure: cannot
connect to saslauthd server: Permission denied
=====================================================================

Since Courier can auth. against the MySQL DB, I *think* the problem
isn't MySQL or pam. I tried to strace the Postfix PIDs, but w/o
success, I got no output from strace -- don't know why :(

Can anybody tell my what permission is needed on what in order to get
this working?

Greetings and TIA, Matthias
