After running net-setup eth0 on the livecd, I am unable to reach an outside address. I can ping my router and other machines on my network but I can not get anoutside connection. Does anyone have an idea of what the problem can be.
Did you copy your /etc/resolv.conf to /mnt/gentoo/etc/resolv.conf before you entered the chroot? If not, you can either leave chroot and copy it, or make a new one. From what you said I reckon you should have a single line saying:
nameserver 192.168.0.1
